109—Why does Alex think he needs to learn what things on the Polish side cost?
Alex need to learn what items cost on the Polish side for a few reasons. Alex one day might go to the polish side (when he is free) and might want to live there and buy stuff.Alex also might want to learn how much stuff costs because if he can find a way over their then maybe he can sell stuff or buy stuff by putting on a show.Alex might also want to know how much stuff costs so when the looter comes and tries to sell him stuff he might try to cheat him. This is why Alex might have wanted to know how much stuff on the Polish side cost. ~Sonia N
Alex needs to know the cost of items in the Polish side for a couple of reasons. 1)When is father is back he could escape the ghettos with his father. 2) If he did go to the polish side he would need a job it would be easy to get a job of selling things. He would need to know the price so he could sell the item for the right price. Alex needs to know the cost of the items so if he moved to the polish side he would know about the cost of food and necessities. ~Vanessa Y.
Well maybe since hes there he needs to know how it works. Like how much things cost over there stuff can cost more than the getto's .So he needs to set asaide the money he needs for something he needs to get like food and etc.
Alex thinks he needs to know what things cost on the Polish side because he believes that one day he will escape the ghetto and live there. Another reason is because if he has to go over to the Polish side again it would be suspicious if he has to buy things and don't know what they cost. Alex is supposed to live on the Polish side of the wall according to pedestrians and the shopkeepers so if he has no idea what things cost, they could get suspicious and report him. Also, since Alex believes he will escape the ghetto one day and live on the Polish side, it gives him hope because he’s imagining his life there so it gives him reassurance that he will get to the Polish side. -Anna.J
Alex thinks he needs to know the cost of items on the Polish side because if he had to go to the Polish side to escape and then live there , he would need to know the cost of items to get tools to keep alive. Also he might to go to the Polish side because his father is there.
Alex needs to know the prices of things on the Polish side because of a few reasons. (1) If Alex needs food and its the only place with the right kind of food. (2) If Alex wants to move over to the Polish side. (3) If Alex wants to work to earn some money over on the Polish side.
Alex thinks he needs to know the cost of things in Poland because if he maybe became a seller on the streets he would need a price. And also if he decided to stay, he would need to know the price for food.
Alex thinks he needs to know the cost of things in Poland because if he maybe became a seller on the streets he would need a price. And also if he decided to stay, he would need to know the price for food. ~Olivia C
I think that Alex needs to know the prices of things for some reasons. First, he needs to know how much money he needs to buy food. If he ever runs out of food, he can always dress up and buy some good nutritious food. Second : Alex might want to stay over at the polish side to survive, so he might as well know some food /item prices. Also, Alex might need money so he might have to work at the Polish side to survive.
I think Alex thinks he needs to learn things the Polish way to adapt to the Polish environment. If you lived in Iraq and then went to Alaska for a year, you would need to adapt to there by learning how to survive there by learning from the people already there. You may learn from scientists or the Inuit/Eskimos ECT. By doing this, Alex's chances of survival increase greatly.
Alex feels like he needs to know the prices for stuff on the Polish side because, if he and his dad ever go there again he will already be adapted a little bit. Also he can go ask for money from Henrky, to buy more food. These are the reasons I believe Alex wants to know the prices for stuff on the Polish side.
Alex wanted to learn what things on the Polish side cost for many reasons. One reason why I think that he wanted to learn what things on the Polish side cost is because he wants to adapt to the environment there. Since Alex now knows how to get to the Polish side he might want to visit there more often. If I was confined to a certain town for all my life I would pounce on the opportunity as well. Also Alex does not have much to do in his current living space so he might want to just explore the Polish side. Alex enjoys the Polish side. Now that he has the chance he might visit the Polish side more often.
I think Alex thinks he needs to know what things on the Polish side cost for a few reasons. One reason is so Alex can buy things on the Polish side if he has to come see the doctor again. Another reason why I think Alex thinks he needs to know what things cost is so if Alex ever becomes free and lives on the Polish side he will be able to buy things. All of my reasons tie into that. Jane A. Section 3
Adding on to what I ( Jane A.) just said, Alex wants to be familiar with how much things cost in the place that he will live on if he lives to see the end of the war.
Alex wanted to learn the cost of things on the Polish side for several reasons. One reason is that he wanted to look natural. If Alex looked and sounded like he was from a different part of the town, (the ghetto), then he might of gotten caught. Alex also had a very limited amount of money. If he spent it all on unimportant things, then he would not have had enough money to pay the doctor. Alex needed the money for survival.
Alex needs to know how much things cost on the Polish side for two main reasons. The first of which is that if he ever gets out of the ghetto, he needs to know the price for basic necessities, as the only thing he knows is the overcosted ghetto goods. The second reason he may need to know the basic cost of items is if he ever gets transported to a different ghetto, he needs to know how far the ghetto has deteriorated. In the event that he ever moves, it would be valuable information to know the cost of basic goods.
I think that he needs to learn what the things cost on the polish side for reasons. I think that because he wanted to eat stuff from the polish grocery and he needs to know and learn about the money in order to eat the food. Also not only does it help with the polish grocery store maybe other stores too.
Alex thinks that he needs to know what the things on the polish side cost for many reasons. One reason is that Alex seems to be very hopeful that his father will come back. So, he probably believes that he needs to know what the food costs when he lives undercover on the polish side. Another reason why Alex thinks that he needs to know what things on the polish side cost is that he needs to know how much money to get from Henryk when he crosses to the polish side. He needs to know what to get for food and how much it costs. My last reason why Alex thinks that he needs to know what the things on the polish side cost is that Alex needs to know how much money he has left for food and what he can spend for fun. Alex needs to know what the things on the polish side cost for many reasons.
Alex needs to learn what things on the polish side costs because he does not want to spend all of his money on one thing because he has a very small amount of money, and if he runs out of it, he wont have enough money to pay for the medicine for Henryk
I think these are the reasons why Alex feels so sick: He had just killed someone, which would obviously make someone sick because you know that you just murdered someone. Also, it might of been sickening to see, like when he saw the Nazi nacked and blood all over the floor which is disgusting. So that might of made him sick. Furthermore, he encountered a lot of experiences that might of been painful. These experiences might of been trapped inside of him and then he had to let it out, so he felt sick first, then he cried. So this is why I think Alex feels sick
Alex needs to know the prices of things on the Polish side for many reasons. First, he could buy useful supplies in stores, and he would need to invest in money to buy those things. Secondly, he might need to bribe people to give him stuff, so he needs the price for them. Third, his father is coming home soon, so Alex needs the price of food and water to survive. Therefore, Alex needs to know the price of those things to survive a bit longer.
Alex needs to know how much things cost on the Polish side because if he ever goes back over to the polish side, he needs to know how much each thing costs. If he doesn't learn what things on the Polish side cost, he might look strange and that might give him away.
I thin Alex needs to learn things on the Polish side so he can fit in when goes over there. When Alexs goes over to the Polish side he needs to blend in with everyone so he can fit in and not e caught on the Polish side. Alex needs to know things on the Polish side so if someone asks him something that relates to the Polish side and where things are he will know how to anwser so that he will not get caught. - Emma Mac
Alex needed to learn about what things cost in the polish side for many reasons.
Alex needed to know how things cost because he thinks that he will sneak out of the ghetto and live there. Another reason is that he needs to start to save up to things he would like to have. Supplies over there are not that cheap so he needs to plan it out before actually buying it. Another reason is to not be a little strange. If he did not know the price of things when he started to live there people would get on his tail about really where he came from. The last reason is to tell over priced ones to cheaper ones. This is key because he only has limited funds. Just going to a place closer and not a couple blocks down for a better price is a matter of life or death, not being able to pay for the food.
In conclusion Alex needed to find the cost of polish goods for many reasons.
Alex needs to know the cost of things on the Polish side for a few things. First of all if him and Father escape from the ghettos to Poles side they can by things to eat and drink. By doing this they will survive. Another reason he needs to know is that when Father is away he can by things for Henryk for him to survive. Also, he needs to know is that if anyone suspects him of being a Jew and he doesn’t know the cost of things, they will suspect him even more of being a Jew. For many reasons Alex needs to know the costs of different things on the Polish side. ~Josh C.
Alex wanted to figure out the costs of things of the Polish side because he wanted to find out if he goes there that he needs to find money for the future to make so that he could afford those items that he could use in his lifestyle. He also doesn't want to look weird at the counter because then he wouldn't look weird.
Alex needs to know what things cost on the Polish side because if he ever had to move tro the Polish side he would know how much money to bring to the shop. Also if Alex had to sell stuff for money he would know how much to ask for as not to arouse suspicion. John B
Alex needs to know the costs of thing on the polish side because if you were going to buy milk you would need to know how much you should bring and if you brought to little than you would need to go back home and get the money you needed, thats why you need to know how much things cost on the polish.
Alex needs to know the costs of thing on the polish side because if you were going to buy milk you would need to know how much you should bring and if you brought to little than you would need to go back home and get the money you needed, thats why you need to know how much things cost on the polish.
Jon- I agree and disagree. I agree that you should know how much money to bring if you were to go buy something, but I think there is also a factor of people being suspicious if he goes into a store and doesn't know how much something he wants to buy costs. The element of suspicion that he's a Jew plays a big factor in this.
Alex needs to know about the polish side in order to buy stuff, because if he didnt he wouldnt be able to get any item, also he needs to know where or how to get money to support himself and people.
Alex thinks that he needs to learn what things on the Polish side cost. I think this is because he might need to buy supplies, and he will need to know how much things cost so that he won’t spend all of his money and then have none left. Also, if he is selling something, he will need to know how much it’s worth so he will get the money he deserves and won’t be ripped off. Basically, Alex wants to know what things on the Polish side cost so that he can actually buy things and sell things for the right price.
In chapter 14 Alex thinks that he needs to learn costs of goods. There are numerous reasons why Alex might think that he needs to learn the cost of each item individually. My thought is that Alex knows they have shops that are open and knows when they open. Then if he knows that one day it may come to use. He may be hungry and low on food in the future, and he might’ve salvaged a few bits of money here and there that he may have gathered enough in order to get him more food to survive as long as he can. -Daphnee-Anne G.
I think that Alex feels he needs to know how much things cost on the Polish side for a few reasons.
First, as far as you can tell from how he observes the polish people, he thinks he might like to live with them someday. He would need to know how much things cost if he lived there.
Also, now that he knows about the secret passageway, it may be nice for him to sometimes go there for a hot meal once in awhile, it may look suspicious if he didn’t know how much things cost.
That is why I think Alex feels he needs to know the prices on the polish side of the fence.
Alex needs to learn the price of things on the Polish side. He needs to the prices because then he can buy materials from the shops with the money Freddy gave him. He can pretend he is Polish and "explore" the place and see new people. But most of all it is to keep himself and the 2 man alive.
Alex needs to learn what things on the Polish side cost for a couple reasons. First of all, he needs to know what he can buy with the limited amount of money Freddy has given him, because he could get caught being an outsider or people could get suspicious. It’s not too common for someone who lives in that area to not know, generally, how much something costs in a store. Also, it could be useful information to know for when/if he gets out of the ghetto and goes to live on the Polish side of the wall. All in all, it would be very useful for Alex to know what things cost on the Polish side.
I agree derek. IF he didn't know the cost of things people would figure out his secret and rat him to a German soldier. It's also important to know when he does decide to escape.
Alex needs to know how much things cost, because if he is going to come over to the Polish side more often, then he needs to know how much money to bring. For example, if Alex wants to buy a roll (like he did on page 109) and a carton of milk (which he resisted the temptation to do), then he needs to know whether he needs just $5 or $15 to be able to pay for what he bought. If Alex could figure out that a roll costs $3, and a carton of milk costs $5, then he would know that every time he came to the market he would need to bring $8 (or ten if he wanted a little extra just in case). If Alex knows how much everything costs, he can plan ahead of time what he wants to buy and how much money he’ll need to bring.
I agree with you Isabela! This is definitely the main reason why he needs to know. I mean what if it cost like $5, but he only brought $3? I liked how you included examples! :)
I think Alex should learn what the polish side cost for many reasons. One reason is that if they survive the war they can go buy what they want. Another reason is that if Alex was to get some money he can buy what he needs. Another reason is that he can know how much something cost. These are good reasons why Alex should learn how much things cost in the polish side.
Alex needs to know the pricing for food in the polish area because if he is going to go there more often he is going to need how much money to bring so he can buy something at the market. For example, if he wants a role and milk he needs to know if it’s $5 or $10. So, also he can know when he gets out of the ghettos so he is more used to the pricing. That’s why he needs to know the cost for things in the polish market.
Alex might want to know the pricing of food so he can buy it. If he can stroll about safely, he can easily buy food instead of starving all the time. Plus, the food is most likely better on the polish side, not to mention healthier too. It's a better system then having to smuggle food from others, due to it being "legal" (sneaking to the other side of the wall isn't, but forget about it). It's good to memorize the prices of food.
I think that Alex needs to know the cost on the Polish side because when him and his father escape the Ghetto, they will probably want to buy food. But if they want to do that they need to know the costs of certain types of foods. Also, if Alex ever wants to get a job on the Polish side, he will have to know the costs of different things so he can get paid and live a better life.
It is important that Alex knows the cost of food outside the ghetto, so that when he goes out to buy some from the grocery store he'll know how much to pay and won't look out of place and raise suspicion. Ben W.
In chapter 14 Alex took a visit to the Polish side of the wall. While he was there he made the statement that he needs to know how much things cost. I believe that his statement is true. Alex had just found a passageway to the Polish side of the wall. In times where he was particularly hungry he could sneak over, and buy some food, but not if he does not know how much things cost. It would look very suspicious if a boy did not how much food cost. If someone grew too suspicious the would rat Alex out, and he would be caught by Germans. Often we forget about regular life in difficult times. Alex realizes in this chapter that it is very important to remember the past. -Maddie A
Alex needs to know the cost of things on the Polish side of the wall for a couple reasons. One reason is that Alex will one day run out of food. Especially with the thought of the Polish moving into the Ghetto, he will need to know the price of food so he can dress up and buy some without looking suspicious. Another reason he may want to know the price of things is that if his Father DOES return, they might need to get food and other necessities to start a better life for themselves. In conclusion, if Alex learns the prices of items on the Polish side, it will make his life in the near future a whole lot easier
Alex thinks that he needs to know what things on the Polish side cost because one day Alex he will run out of food and when some day Alex is free and wants to bye stuff he can. He will need to know the price of food so he can dress up and buy some without looking suspicious. If Alex needs to for some reason leave the Ghetto during the uprising he will look a lot more suspicious if he doesn't know how much things cost.
Alex thinks he needs to learn about the Polish side because Alex is gonna run out of food then the Polish will come then he can buy food, and get more clothes.
Alex should know what things cost outside of the Ghettos because he will need to buy food when his food supply is running low. If he were to ask someone how much something costs, they would probably suspect that he was not accustomed to the polish side, and they might tell a German soldier.
Alex wants to know what things on the Polish side cost because now he knows about the secret passage. He understands that he might have to travel between sides to get food, drinks, or help from the doctor. He also might want to escape from or to the Polish side. Furthermore, Alex wants to learn everything he can from the Polish side, if he wants to push his luck with getting stuff, or just needing help. -Elon L.
Alex wants to know the currency on the Polish side cost because he knows how to escape now and if he ever needed or wanted to he could escape out of the ghetto. If he does escape he wants to make sure to fit in, because someone would rat if they knew his secret.
Alex needs to know the cost of things because he could get money for things and he might have just enough or he might need to restock on things or even get more money. It could also be useful just to give the person the exact amount and bolt out.
Alex decided that he had better know what things on the Polish side cost. First, if Alex comes to the Polish grocery store again, they may be a bit suspicious if he doesn’t know the cost of things. It is possible that most Poles do know the cost of every (or most) foods for sale, so they could report him to the Germans for seeming like an outsider or Jew. To fix this issue, Alex is smart for telling himself to pay more attention to the pricing on Polish food and supply. In addition, if Alex gets more money, he will be able to plan ahead for what items he can buy and what he needs to save up for (if learns the costs). Alex could figure out how much money he has (or needs to get) and then plan out what to spend the money on--like supplies, water, and food. Knowing the costs will assure that Alex will have enough money for certain items he can afford. Lastly, since Alex definitely is very hopeful that Father will return, he may currently join the Polish side with him “undercover”, so he was very intelligent to prepare for knowing what items may cost, so he and Father will have no trouble fitting in with the actual Poles. In conclusion, Alex was actually very smart to remind himself to pay closer attention to the cost of supplies and such on the Polish side. He will not seem suspicious when buying food, will be prepared to pay for certain things (he will know what he needs to get), and will fit in with the Poles by normally buying food and having the correct amount of money if he ever moves there (if Father does actually return).
Alex needs to find out what things cost on the Polish side so he can be quicker at buying things and so someone doesn't fool him into paying more than he has to.
I think that Alex needs to learn what things cost on the Polish side for these reasons: My first reason is that he might be thinking that he would leave the Ghetto soon, because of the Jewish Uprising or just sneaking out sometimes. So, I think Alex is planning ahead because he might be living in the Polish ghetto and he needs to learn how things work. For example, if a person is moving from Italy to America, he or she needs to learn the currency and how the dollar works. Most likely the person will need to buy something in America so they need to know how to buy stuff in America. relating back to Alex, he might need to know what things cost on the Polish side for the same reasons as the Italy-America example So these are the reasons why Alex needs to learn what things cost on the Polish side.
Alex thinks needs to know all the prices of everything on the Polish side for two reasons.
First, when Alex sneaks out which he will most likely do he will need to know the prices so no will suspect anything about him being different then any of the other Polish people
Second, it will be easy for Alex to sneak things back to the ghetto if he knows the prices so he can bring the right amount of money and not look suspicious bringing to much money to by some milk.
All in all to Alex it is a necessity to know all the prices of the things on the polish side to blend in.
In the book “The Island on Bird Street”, by Uri Orlev I believe Alex wanted to find out the cost because he thought it was important. First of all, Alex thought that if he ever had to live on the Polish side than it would be helpful to know the price so you can earn money. He “better learn what things cost”. Next, when you are in a situation where you can’t predict the future, you have to learn how to survive and how to get the food. Plus, Alex is gonna have to buy food not find food in a hideout or steal it. Its important for Alex to know the basic stuff. Also, its a tool in a way for Alex. If he thinks he is gonna need to know that it might help him get through the hard times. Lastly, he needs to know how much to bring with him. As you can see its really important for Alex to know the cost of things on the Polish side.
Alex needed to know what things cost so when he pays for them he doesn't have to stop, try to figure it out there and look suspicious. If he pauses and doesn't know what to pay it will be obvious that he is from the ghetto. He can't just survive on finding food, he has to buy some also.
There are a few reasons why Alex would need to know what things cost on the Polish side. First, he is probably planning on going back to the Polish side to buy more stuff or to play with the children his age. Sitting in an abandoned house, alone, doesn’t sound very fun. Another reason could be that he is planning on actually moving there with his father if the war doesn’t end. That way he would be able to have friends his own age and go to school and stuff like that. The third reason could be just to keep his mind off of his life at this moment in time. Just like he did as he was observing the people on the Polish side. ~Morgan B-W
Alex needs to learn what things on the polish side cost because if he goes over there he needs to look like he belongs and not like some outsider who doesn't know the cost of things. Also, if he asks or isn't familiar with the place people might start to become suspicious.
It would be good to know what things on the polish side cost so he can buy food, items, even services (like medical attention) to help him survive. There is not an endless supply of food hidden in old hideouts. Knowing what things cost helps him look like a Polish boy so he doesn't look like someone not Polish.
Alex need to learn what items cost on the Polish side for a few reasons.

DeleteI think that he needs to learn what the things cost on the polish side for reasons. I think that because he wanted to eat stuff from the polish grocery and he needs to know and learn about the money in order to eat the food. Also not only does it help with the polish grocery store maybe other stores too.

DeleteAlex thinks that he needs to know what the things on the polish side cost for many reasons.
ReplyDeleteEleasah W.
I agree with you Eleasah that he needs to know what to spend for necessities and what is left for "Luxury".
Delete~ John M
Alex needs to learn what things on the polish side costs because he does not want to spend all of his money on one thing because he has a very small amount of money, and if he runs out of it, he wont have enough money to pay for the medicine for Henryk

I think these are the reasons why Alex feels so sick:
ReplyDeleteHe had just killed someone, which would obviously make someone sick because you know that you just murdered someone.

ReplyDelete~Max Tu
Alex needs to know how much things cost on the Polish side because if he ever goes back over to the polish side, he needs to know how much each thing costs. If he doesn't learn what things on the Polish side cost, he might look strange and that might give him away.
ReplyDelete~Jason W
I thin Alex needs to learn things on the Polish side so he can fit in when goes over there. When Alexs goes over to the Polish side he needs to blend in with everyone so he can fit in and not e caught on the Polish side. Alex needs to know things on the Polish side so if someone asks him something that relates to the Polish side and where things are he will know how to anwser so that he will not get caught.
ReplyDelete- Emma Mac
Alex needed to learn about what things cost in the polish side for many reasons.
ReplyDeleteAlex needed to know how things cost because he thinks that he will sneak out of the ghetto and live there.

DeleteAlex needs to know the cost of things on the Polish side for a few things.
ReplyDelete~Josh C.
Alex wanted to figure out the costs of things of the Polish side because he wanted to find out if he goes there that he needs to find money for the future to make so that he could afford those items that he could use in his lifestyle. He also doesn't want to look weird at the counter because then he wouldn't look weird.
ReplyDelete~Cal M.
I agree. Emma MEM
DeleteAlex needs to know what things cost on the Polish side because if he ever had to move tro the Polish side he would know how much money to bring to the shop. Also if Alex had to sell stuff for money he would know how much to ask for as not to arouse suspicion.
ReplyDeleteJohn B
Alex needs to know the costs of thing on the polish side because if you were going to buy milk you would need to know how much you should bring and if you brought to little than you would need to go back home and get the money you needed, thats why you need to know how much things cost on the polish.
ReplyDeleteAlex needs to know the costs of thing on the polish side because if you were going to buy milk you would need to know how much you should bring and if you brought to little than you would need to go back home and get the money you needed, thats why you need to know how much things cost on the polish.
ReplyDelete-Jon P
Jon- I agree and disagree. I agree that you should know how much money to bring if you were to go buy something, but I think there is also a factor of people being suspicious if he goes into a store and doesn't know how much something he wants to buy costs. The element of suspicion that he's a Jew plays a big factor in this.
Delete~Derek K.
Alex needs to know about the polish side in order to buy stuff, because if he didnt he wouldnt be able to get any item, also he needs to know where or how to get money to support himself and people.
ReplyDeleteAlex thinks that he needs to learn what things on the Polish side cost.
ReplyDelete-Maya Williams
In chapter 14 Alex thinks that he needs to learn costs of goods. There are numerous reasons why Alex might think that he needs to learn the cost of each item individually. My thought is that Alex knows they have shops that are open and knows when they open. Then if he knows that one day it may come to use. He may be hungry and low on food in the future, and he might’ve salvaged a few bits of money here and there that he may have gathered enough in order to get him more food to survive as long as he can.
ReplyDelete-Daphnee-Anne G.
I think that Alex feels he needs to know how much things cost on the Polish side for a few reasons.
ReplyDeleteFirst, as far as you can tell from how he observes the polish people, he thinks he might like to live with them someday.
Emma MEM
Alex needs to learn the price of things on the Polish side. He needs to the prices because then he can buy materials from the shops with the money Freddy gave him. He can pretend he is Polish and "explore" the place and see new people. But most of all it is to keep himself and the 2 man alive.
ReplyDelete-Tina H.
ReplyDelete~Derek K.
I agree Derek. He definitely needs to know so he isn't caught as an outsider or if he wants to escape the Ghetto to go to the Polish side.
Delete-Elon L.
I agree derek. IF he didn't know the cost of things people would figure out his secret and rat him to a German soldier. It's also important to know when he does decide to escape.
DeleteMatt G
ReplyDelete~Isabela G.
I agree with you Isabela! This is definitely the main reason why he needs to know. I mean what if it cost like $5, but he only brought $3? I liked how you included examples! :)
Delete~Emily E.~
I completely agree with you Isabela because especialy in these times, you need to be prepared!

ReplyDeleteDerek C.
There are different reasons why Alex might need to know the cost of things on the Polish Side.
ReplyDelete1.) Alex doesn't want to spend all the money and he needs to manage saving it up.
2.) He might escape the ghetto one day and move to the Polish Side...and have to know what things cost so he can buy food, water, and other supplies.
3.) Will he, Freddy, and Henryk come to live with the doctor? Leaving a note for Father?
4.) If he can get money, he may be able to sneak over to the Polish Side to get food.
5.) If Alex needs to visit the Polish Side for any reason during the Uprising, he will know the cost of what food and supplies are there.
This is why he needs to know the cost of things on the Polish Side.
~Emily E.~

ReplyDeleteIt's good to memorize the prices of food.
- Lily M.
ReplyDelete~Kelley
I agree with you completely. If Alex wants to live a better life, he needs to stock up on basic Polish knowledge.
Delete-Becca L.
I agree, Kelley. He would have a better life if he gets a job that pays him enough for the cost of food.
Delete-Abigail D.
It is important that Alex knows the cost of food outside the ghetto, so that when he goes out to buy some from the grocery store he'll know how much to pay and won't look out of place and raise suspicion.
ReplyDeleteBen W.
I agree that it is important for Alex to "fit in" when he buys food
Delete-Becca L.
In chapter 14 Alex took a visit to the Polish side of the wall. While he was there he made the statement that he needs to know how much things cost. I believe that his statement is true.
ReplyDeleteAlex had just found a passageway to the Polish side of the wall.
-Maddie A
I definitely agree, Maddie, that he would look suspicious if he didn't know the costs of foods.
Delete-Abigail D.
ReplyDelete-Becca L.
I agree with you, Becca. I like how you brought Father into your piece--it makes sense.
Delete-Abigail D.
ReplyDeleteBella C.
Alex thinks he needs to learn about the Polish side because Alex is gonna run out of food then the Polish will come then he can buy food, and get more clothes.
ReplyDelete-Richie
Alex should know what things cost outside of the Ghettos because he will need to buy food when his food supply is running low. If he were to ask someone how much something costs, they would probably suspect that he was not accustomed to the polish side, and they might tell a German soldier.
ReplyDeleteNora B
Alex wants to know what things on the Polish side cost because now he knows about the secret passage. He understands that he might have to travel between sides to get food, drinks, or help from the doctor. He also might want to escape from or to the Polish side. Furthermore, Alex wants to learn everything he can from the Polish side, if he wants to push his luck with getting stuff, or just needing help.
ReplyDelete-Elon L.
I certainly agree, Elon. I have noticed that Alex has been paying attention to the Polish side, and is trying to learn everything he can.
Delete-Abigail D.
Alex wants to know the currency on the Polish side cost because he knows how to escape now and if he ever needed or wanted to he could escape out of the ghetto. If he does escape he wants to make sure to fit in, because someone would rat if they knew his secret.
ReplyDeleteMatt G
Alex needs to know the cost of things because he could get money for things and he might have just enough or he might need to restock on things or even get more money. It could also be useful just to give the person the exact amount and bolt out.
ReplyDeleteNick T
I agree, Nick. He definitely will need to restock on things.
Delete-Abigail D.
I also agree that he will need to re-stalk on things.
Delete-Dylan J
Alex decided that he had better know what things on the Polish side cost.
ReplyDeleteFirst, if Alex comes to the Polish grocery store again, they may be a bit suspicious if he doesn’t know the cost of things.
-Abigail D.
Alex needs to find out what things cost on the Polish side so he can be quicker at buying things and so someone doesn't fool him into paying more than he has to.
ReplyDeleteBennett E
I think that Alex needs to learn what things cost on the Polish side for these reasons:
ReplyDeleteMy first reason is that he might be thinking that he would leave the Ghetto soon, because of the Jewish Uprising or just sneaking out sometimes. So, I think Alex is planning ahead because he might be living in the Polish ghetto and he needs to learn how things work. For example, if a person is moving from Italy to America, he or she needs to learn the currency and how the dollar works. Most likely the person will need to buy something in America so they need to know how to buy stuff in America. relating back to Alex, he might need to know what things cost on the Polish side for the same reasons as the Italy-America example
So these are the reasons why Alex needs to learn what things cost on the Polish side.
-Jake G
I agree Jake that Alex will sneak out so he will have to learn what things cost
Delete-Dylan J
Alex thinks needs to know all the prices of everything on the Polish side for two reasons.
ReplyDeleteFirst, when Alex sneaks out which he will most likely do he will need to know the prices so no will suspect anything about him being different then any of the other Polish people
Second, it will be easy for Alex to sneak things back to the ghetto if he knows the prices so he can bring the right amount of money and not look suspicious bringing to much money to by some milk.
All in all to Alex it is a necessity to know all the prices of the things on the polish side to blend in.
-Dylan J
ReplyDeleteSivan A.
Alex needed to know what things cost so when he pays for them he doesn't have to stop, try to figure it out there and look suspicious. If he pauses and doesn't know what to pay it will be obvious that he is from the ghetto. He can't just survive on finding food, he has to buy some also.
ReplyDelete-Paige W
There are a few reasons why Alex would need to know what things cost on the Polish side. First, he is probably planning on going back to the Polish side to buy more stuff or to play with the children his age. Sitting in an abandoned house, alone, doesn’t sound very fun. Another reason could be that he is planning on actually moving there with his father if the war doesn’t end. That way he would be able to have friends his own age and go to school and stuff like that. The third reason could be just to keep his mind off of his life at this moment in time. Just like he did as he was observing the people on the Polish side.
ReplyDelete~Morgan B-W
Alex needs to learn what things on the polish side cost because if he goes over there he needs to look like he belongs and not like some outsider who doesn't know the cost of things. Also, if he asks or isn't familiar with the place people might start to become suspicious.
ReplyDelete~Audrey
It would be good to know what things on the polish side cost so he can buy food, items, even services (like medical attention) to help him survive. There is not an endless supply of food hidden in old hideouts. Knowing what things cost helps him look like a Polish boy so he doesn't look like someone not Polish.
ReplyDelete
