Alex wants to be a doctor because the doctor that he met was kind and caring to the wounded man. Also after having someone's death because of him, maybe he wants to save peoples lives to make himself feel better.

I disagree with the statement about Alex's mother. Just because Alex thinks about her does not mean that he expects her to come back. She does not even know that he is in number 78.

Even though it might of been bloody he felt the need to help people because sadly, many people were like Henryk weak and wounded. Lastly, he might of looked up to the doctor because he saved lives and he was nice.
So, this is why I think Alex wants to be the doctor.

I think Alex still has hope. He is shill hoping that he will see his father again. I know he is still waiting for him because every time Alex is asked to stay with someone he wants to say yes but he does not. He refuses because he believes that his father will come. Every time Alex leaves his house he considers his father coming and not finding him. It is clear to me that Alex thinks his father will come.

I agree with Alex about not thinking that his mother will come back, but I disagree with believing that Alex's father will return. I think it has been such a long time since he should have come. I know how cruel the Germans were and I do not think he escaped safely. There is a very little chance that he is even alive right now.

Alex still has hope that his Father will come back. Every time someone offers him to stay with them, or go somewhere else with them, Alex refuses. His answer is always “I’m waiting for my father.”, but he never says that he is waiting for his mother. I do not think Alex is waiting for his mother, but I know that he is waiting for his father. Throughout the book, Alex has also taken things for his father, for example at places like the bunker, and the other houses. If Alex is taking things for his father, and is rejecting offers, he must have hope that his father is will come back.

Alex wants to be a doctor when he grows up. After spending sometime with the doctor he is sure of this. A reason why I think this happened is Alex saw how helpful the doctor was. He realized that if he was a doctor he would be that helpful. What Alex likes about the doctor is how helpful he can be. Seeing how helpful the doctor was made Alex realize what he wanted to be.

I think that Alex wants to be a doctor for a few reasons.
ReplyDeleteOne reason is that he enjoys helpng people. He would like to see a smile on everybody's faces because that would make him feel emotional better about what is happening in this time period.
Another reason is that the Doctor was a role model. What I mean by that is the doctor still helped Alex and Henryk him even though he was not supposed too. He was kind and Alex was brought to joy with it. So Alex would want to do the same to other people. The last reason why Alex would consider to be a doctor is that he wants everybody to be able to live. Alex does not like death and he would feel well if he saved lives.
In conclusion Alex wanted to be a doctor for many reasons.

I think Alex wants to be a doctor after seeing one. I think this because he wants to help his fellow friends. He feels the need to help his friends not only physically but also mentally to help strengthen their bravery to get through this time, healing their minds. He really wants to help and heal everyone's wounds in their mind and on their body. You bandage it up making sure your safe and that the cut is clean, just like the mind from any bad thoughts. I think this is the main reason why Alex would like to be a doctor.

ReplyDeleteI think Alex has a chance of seeing some of his family again, i think he has a chance of seeing his father again but not his mother. His Mother has been gone longer than his father and Alex and his father “ Began belive that she had been transported to Germany” If Alex's mother is alive then she's probably in Germany where Alex will probably never see her. But thats if shes alive, Alex's mother could be dead by now. Alex also seems now to given up hope, or at least has more hope for his father to return than his mother. When Bolek and his wife ask Alex why he can't stay with them hes says “I'm waiting for my father” not that hes waiting for his parents. Which makes me think that he has given up hope. Which in turn makes me feel doubtful of her return.

Alex wants to be a doctor for many reasons. Doctors can help other people get better, like the doctor who helped Henryk get the bullet out. After seeing the doctor help Henryk, Alex probably thinks that doctors are good people, and wants to be someone that directly helps the Jews, but not as in shooting Germans and killing them in an uprising. Instead, helping Jews by healing those who are participating in shooting the Germans.

Alex liked that the doctor was efficient and careful.The doctor was also kind and caring. When Alex saw blood, it didn't frighten him. Alex also liked being helpful and a doctor's assistant.

Alex wanted to be a doctor before the he met “the doctor”. The reason for this is similar to why any kid wants to be anything; it interests them. This changed after he met “the doctor”. His perspective on what doctors did and how they seemingly performed miracles should amaze anyone, and in Alex’s case, it just reinforced his lust to become a doctor. Alex had previously wanted to become a doctor and watching one work only caused him to seek the profession even more.

Alex still wants to be a doctor. There are various reasons why he still wants to be a doctor after getting to know the doctor. My first thought is that throughout the book mostly the men didn’t care about kids, only their own. Then Alex met the doctor who was the second man that was nice to him after Bolek. Alex thought the doctor was probably nice because the doctor gave him food a haircut in order to help him, well the food part. Also Alex already wanted to be a doctor when he got older so maybe he thinks that allot of doctor are nice. Alex likes the fact the doctor is generous and caring towards everyone. I think Alex was really grateful when the doctor gave him some food since he’s trying to survive, and I think Alex likes the fact that he has a doctor that he can trust if he or anyone he’s met is injured or sick.

I think that Alex still has hope of seeing his Dad, however I do not think he has hope that he will see his mom. I think this because when he ran into 78 Bird Street his dad promised he will come and get him. So now whenever someone asks him to do something like Bolek asking Alex to live with him he always says "I can't, I'm waiting for my father. His mom on the other hand has been gone for many years and Alex has heard rumors that his mother is dead. I do not think Alex has any hope of seeing his mother again.

I think that Alex still thinks that his Father will come, but he keeps talking about his mother as if she’s dead already. I am almost positive that Alex thinks his father will return, or else he would’ve already left and stayed in the Polish town. He has already been offered to live with a Polish family as their own, but Alex was so sure his Father was coming back that he didn’t take them up on his offer. He would much rather stay in a dangerous, broken-down, dirty building then stay with a nice, well-off family that will feed him food, just because his Father might not find him there. This means that Alex is almost positive that his dad will come back, but I am not so sure. If he really is coming back, there is no sign of him, and there are many places in which he could've been killed. Whether he’s actually coming back or not, there is no way of knowing.

I think Alex still has a lot of hope inside of seeing his father again. First of all, he tells Henryk that if his father calls, he will call, "Alex!" If he didn't have any more hope, why would he prepare for when he comes? Also, at the end of chapter 12, Alex explains, "Not as long as I was here, waiting for my father.” That, to me, shows a sign of hope. Plus, in chapter 12, Alex leaves notes to help his father find the bunker, saying, “Treasure” and “You’re very warm. Don’t give up. Alex.” Again, solid evidence that he hasn’t given up hope. Alex truly does believe that his father will come home.

Alex’s dad told him to meet him at 78 Bird St. ,but his mother just disappeared and would not be able to find them(or just Alex). Another reason I think Alex will see his dad again but not his mom is because, in the “About the Author” end of the book there are many similarities between the author and Alex. The authors father was taken by Russians, but found Alex again a long time later. His mother was killed by Nazis. I think this will be what happens in the book too(or something like that). These are the reasons I think Alex has hope that he will see his father again, but not his mother.

I think that Alex wants to become a doctor, because he likes the feeling and honor of saving lives. When you save a life, it gives you a warm feeling inside of you that tells you that you just did something REALLY good. It could also come in handy, like if he needed medical help himself. Another possible reason is that the doctor was a good role-model. He was patient, friendly, and he did his job. Since the doctor made it seem like doing his job was fun and productive, it may have rubbed off on Alex.

The doctor “pulled out the bullet as neatly as though he had been doing it all his life and held it triumphantly up”, which made Alex want to pursue his dreams even more. Alex hoped to be a great doctor because of how fascinating the doctor he witnessed was.
In addition, unlike many people, Alex wasn’t afraid of seeing blood. On page 115, Alex thinks to himself: “He was worried that all the blood would scare me, but it didn’t” which meant that Alex was a very brave kid, and was capable of performing surgery without being scared. Since he liked the doctor he met, and was not afraid of blood, Alex probably thought that being a doctor would be a fitting job for him--and that he would enjoy it.
Lastly, since Alex has witnessed MANY people getting killed, he probably wanted to help save lives of Jews (and maybe even help wounded Germans or Poles). Alex clearly did not enjoy seeing Henryk wounded, or even the dead German soldier, which meant that he wanted to help people live, whether they are good or bad, because he is sick and tired of seeing people suffer and die. It is very possible that he wants to make a difference in the world, which he can do by being a doctor.
In conclusion, Alex “was sure that [he] wanted to be a doctor.” Alex wasn’t afraid of seeing blood, which is something every doctor needs to overcome, and Alex was already prepared to see blood and wounds! Also, Alex hoped to be a great doctor after seeing the doctor’s amazing skills, and he wanted to make a difference in the world by saving lives.

I think Alex wants to be a doctor after getting to know the doctor who helped Henryk. One reason is, being a doctor is a very honorable job and Alex feels after meeting the doctor and becoming close to him that he is his role model. You want to be what your role model is so that is why Alex wants to be a doctor. Another reason is, Alex already helped Henryk by saving him from the Germans and he is very proud of that so I would think that he wants to help more people and that is a good job if you want to help people. In the end I think being a doctor is a very suitable job due to his helpful traits.

I think that there are many reasons Alex wants to be a doctor for many reasons. First of all, when he was looking out of the air vent, I think that even then he admired the doctor in the polish town. Next, when Henryk got the bullet in him, Alex was willing to help him, Whether that meant bandaging his wound, or saving two apples for him to eat, he is willing to help Henryk when he is in need. Lastly, I think that another reason Alex is sure he wants to be a doctor is when he sees the doctor fromt the Polish side of the fence tending to Henryk, he knows that thats what he wants to for the rest of his life. I think that can determine why you want to do for the rest of your life.

In the book “The Island on Bird Street”, by Uri Orlev I think Alex wants to be doctor for many reasons. My first reason is that I think Alex finds what the doctor does interesting. Alex was very much fascinated when the doctor “pulled out the bullet as neatly as though he had been doing it all his life”. Alex knew right then that even more so he wanted to be a doctor. I think that the doctor was surprised that Alex wasn’t scared or disgusted by the blood. Alex proudly thought to himself “he was worried that all the blood would scare me, but it didn’t”. It made Alex feel proud to know that being interested in things that a doctor would think disturb a kid made him feel good inside. Next, I believe Alex found the doctors ways a little bit “charming”. Alex got intrigued by what the doctor did. In a way he did get charmed. Plus, Alex found the doctors ways entertaining. When the doctor gave Henryk some vodka and claimed that it will “make him a little bit tipsy” it made Alex feel very open and comfortable with the doctor. In addition, when the doctor talked to Alex about killing people at first Alex felt guilty because the doctor said “people shouldn't kill each other, son”. After the doctor said his point of view he then spoke an exception that “if you're saving the life of a friend or someone in your family, or defending your country, or just trying to keep yourself alive, there is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s no disgrace to kill a murderer like the soldier you told me about.” Alex maybe feels safe with the doctor. I can keep him mentally in check knowing that someone is trying to save lives. Furthermore, Alex already wanted to be a doctor but after that experience of having a life saved he just got exposed to what really happens and how amazing it is. Can you see know why Alex finds it so amazing to be a doctor and to save lives. I sure can know looking in his perspective.

I think that Alex has a very good chance of seeing his Mother again because they never said what actually happened to her. They only said that when she left to go see friends in ghetto A she didn't. I think that there are a few reasons why Alex wants to become a doctor.
ReplyDeleteFirst, he wants to help people. when he saw the doctor help Hendryk he iknew he wanted to be a doctor because he loved helping people. The doctor was a role model to him and is what made him know that he wanted to be a doctor when he grew up.
Another reason is that when he killed the german soldier he felt sick to him stomatch. But he had to kill one person in order to save two, and possibly more. When he killed him he knew he was doing the right thing but he felt guilty. He wants to help save people. not kill them.
Third, even though it may have been bloody, he didn’t mind being in the presence of a wounded man. He was probably inspired instead of disgusted by the Hendryk and the doctor.

Alex wants to be a doctor for one reason. The reason is that doctors help people and that is what Alex wants to do. Alex is sure that he wants to be a doctor after he sees how good of a person the doctor was. For helping him look decent to helping Henryk and risking his life by going across the border to save another.

I think that Alex wants to be a doctor for a few reasons. First of all he probably wants to help his friend Henryk survive, and if he wants to be a doctor he will need to save Henryk. Another reason could be that if he wants to help people, not Nazis, get through the war he will have to be a doctor to this. Also, if he saves lives he would feel better than seeing them die. Alex could also want to be a doctor because the other doctor who saved Henryk was very careful at what he was doing. The doctor could be part of why he wants to be a doctor. There could be many reason that he wants to be a doctor.

In chapter 5 Alex met a doctor, and felt that he might want to become a doctor.
ReplyDeleteThe reason that I think he wants to become a doctor is that he has become very attached to the doctor that he met. The doctor saved his friend, and when Alex told the doctor that he shot a man the doctor was not disgusted by Alex. The doctor told Alex that it was all right, and helped him get through it.
Alex looked up to a man who treated him nicely, and thought that he one day, would like to be like that.

Alex wants to be a doctor because he feels like the doctor was nice and kind and very smart. Also, he felt that the doctor was strong and smart.

Alex says that he wants to be a doctor. Here are the reasons:
ReplyDelete1. The Doctor was nice, kind, and had a great attitude.
2. The Doctor was smart.
3. The Doctor was kind.
4. The Doctor was able to help and save peoples lives.
This is why I think Alex wanted to be a doctor.
