Chapter 4
p. 30/31—Do you agree with Father or Mother about trusting people?Explain your answer.
I agree with Mother about trusting people. One reason I think this is because sometimes you need to trust other people. If you just trust your self, you would always have pressure .Some times you need to trust others to get rid of that pressure. Another reason I think this is because trusting people does depend on the situation. If you ar ein a room with a criminal you don't want to trust them; but if you are in a room with your mom you can trust them. Father may have been partly right about trusting people, but MOther was more correct. ~Hayley C.
I agree with you Hayley. I think that when you are in a situation that requires help from others, you should trust them. But, if you are in a situation with people that you cannot trust, that is the time to stick with yourself.
I agree with Haley. You always have to trust someone, you are never going to get anywhere if you can't trust someone else. But like Ben said, if it's something dangerous like that, you can't always trust them ~Emily E
I agree with both of them because sometimes you must trust someone, so they can help you. As mother said,"The heart should have love and kindess in it." So sometimes you must help someone else who is in need of help. Aslo it depends on the situation as mother siad. But you shouldn't trust someone who looks dangerous or who has killed many people, like a Nazi solider. It is up to Alex or anyone to decide what is right and who to trust.
I agree with Ben K because your claim and evidence is good. But I would like one more quote to make it REALLY strong because the way how you use quotes is great.
I agree with Ben K's statement. Neither of the parents ideas are correct, but together they are. It is important to not trust everyone but there are some people that can, and deserve, to be trusted. Before trusting or not trusting, one should have a reason to trust them or a reason not to. As you said "It is up to Alex or anyone to decide what is right and who to trust."
I definitely agree with you Ben. I brought up similar points as you, but I think that Mother is slightly more correct than Father. I feel like there a re moe people to trust in the world than not.
I agree with Father. If you are constantly relying on other people, your own person will be crippled. After a while, almost everyone you rely on will be gone or have changed (I am a very different person than when I was five), and you will have to build everything up again. There is never a guarantee that there will be someone there for you, so the only person you can truly trust is yourself.
I agree with Father or Mother about trusting people. I agree because their right, it does depend on the person. For instance, I woud trust the president with a secret rather than a child. Or I would trust a friend rather than an enemy. I would trust a teacher rather than a student. So I conclude that I agree with Father or Mother about trusting people.
I agree with both Mother, and Father. Alex must use his intelligence to decide weather or not to trust someone. Mother stated, "'An intelligent person knows when to follow one rule and when to follow the other."' Father agreed with that statement by saying, "'Yes Alex, that's so.'" The reason that I agree with both of their statements is because some people are very trustworthy but others aren't to be trusted at all. For example, a "murderer with a skull patch on his uniform" is definitely not to be trusted but at other times, "the heart should have love and kindness" in which one should trust that person. It is Alex's decision.
I agree with Matt G.I agree with your statement because mom was mostly right, but father was aslo right, except that sometimes you can trust other people, but only if they dont look dangerous. As you said,"It is Alex's decision."
Dad said, “Be kind but trust only yourself”. Mom said, “If you relate to people with trust and human kindness, they will always help you”. I agree with both mom and dad. Trusting people is great! You will have people to lean on and someone you can keep secrets with. I first thought only mom was right but then I thought about and if you trust someone doesn’t mean they won’t turn on you. If you give them all your trust and they ended up turning on you it would hurt A LOT! That’s why both mom and dad are right. -Vanessa Y.
I agree with Mother. She thinks you should trust people who are kind.
I think that it can not be a bad thing to have a few good, honest people who you trust. Trusting people with things that would other wise be secret is helpful to you. You will not have as much stress put on you as you would if you had to keep all of your secrets secret. Keeping secrets from the ones you love is a sad and hard thing to do. Doing it can really bring you down as a person. Not having to keep secrets can be helpful when you actually have a big secret to keep. All you will have to do is keep one secret, not 10.
Mother does not want Alex to trust just anyone thought. She wants him to trust good honest trustworthy people. If you trust honest trustworthy people then it will be okay.
Jane A. Section 3 NOTE: Please do not mind any of my spelling mistakes.
I agree with Mother, about trusting people based on the situation. Depending on your situation, sometimes you need to trust people. You need to trust others when you are in a somewhat dangerous situation. For example, if you were about to cross over a rickety bridge, and your friend was at the end, you would most likely trust them to help you get across. Another reason why I agree with mother, is that when you only trust yourself, you put a large amount of pressure on yourself. If you are always relying on yourself, someday you might need someone to help you. By having someone to rely on, it can help you when you are in a situation that requires help from others.
I agree with Alex's father for many reasons. One reason is that if you trust yourself you will succeed on what you were suposed to do. Another reason is that there is some people that you might not know you can't trust and you also know that you are always on your side. Another reason is that if you trust someone there is a chance they will fail doing what you want him or her to do. These are good reason that I agree with Alex's father.
Hayley Clline, I agree with what you said about how father could have been partly right but mother was mostly right. That is a good thing to say if you are having a debate.
I agree with Alex's mother and father. I agree with there statement "It depends on the situation" because say your on a busy street and you have lost your mom or dad. You can MAYBE trust someone if they say " do you need to borrow my cell phone? or "are you lost?" because there USALLY trying to help. But in other times, maybe your walking from school to your house with a phone and a car pulls up to you and asks you something, And in that example, you cant really trust that person.
I agree with mother about trusting people. I agree with her because, she says it depends on the situation. For example if you saw somebody hurt someone else (for bad reasons) I wouldn't trust them, but if they did it to protect someone or to protect themselves I would trust them. I trust people who trust me, be nice to them, and they are nice back. These are the reasons i believe mother is correct.
I agre with Cammi, because I also agree it depends on the reason . The reason is really everything to a situation. If your reason ( for example) was to hurt them, then it's not a good reason. If it's for self-defense, then it's "ok".
I agree with Alex's mother's statement. I believe that you still should be kind to everyone around you, but even if you know someone EXTREMELY well they could make the choice of turning against at you. They might even betray you. (It does happen..) I don't think that if you treat everyone with kindness, they will always help you. It depends on the person, and what they still believe. They have a choice of taking in your kindness, or turning away from it. Either way, you should always take your time and be kind anyway. So, Alex's mother's statement makes sense to me.
I agree with Mother about trusting people. One reason I think this is because sometimes you need to trust others. If you just trust yourself you would always have pressure on you. Sometimes you need to trust others to get rid of that pressure. Another reason why I think this is, because trusting people does depend on the situation. If you are in a room with a criminal, you don't want to trust them; but if you are in a room with your mom you can trust her. Father may have been partly right about not trusting people, but Mother was more correct.
I think Father is right. Although it's good to have someone you can trust, you never know for sure. There are too many people willing to backstab anyone they can for anything they want. Yes, there are people you can trust, those you know really well and they, in turn, know you, but you may not know them that well. Honestly, I think Father's point is that it's better to be safe than sorry, and he gave good advice. And in their time, it was all about survival. You have to think: is there anyone you know that would betray you for a price?
I agree with Alex's mother. I agree with her because the first thing that she said was "If you relate to people with kindness and trust, they will always help you." This is almost always true. When you become friends with a person that you can trust, they know your secrets and when something goes wrong, why it goes wrong! Also, if the person has kindness, they will not leave you, they will stay. Not only that, they will always be nice and kind to you. Pretend that you had told your friend about what happened with your presentation on Friday. You meet up with a bunch of people in that class after school, and of course they know about it. But then there are other people that don't know about it. Your friend knows that you said something wrong, and when they tease you, she is there to help you. But when people ask what happens, she makes sure to shut her mouth and not tell them. When Father disagrees, Mother says "It depends on the situation." Adding onto that she said "The heart should always have kindess and love in it." I completely agree. If someone seems trustworthy and are kind to you, you can most likely trust them. Like let's say you're walking home with your friends and the person asks for directions, the directions to your house. You most likely can't trust that person. But if someone in school comes and asks, "What did you write for the science homework? Oh, and thanks for letting me borrow a dollar!" There is probably a chance that they won't try to blow up your house. You should always have trust and kindess in your heart, even if you don't like the person you're talking to. Every person is equal, and every person deserves the same thing. ~Emily E.
Willie Thacker, I agree with what you are saying about how trusting other people can hurt you but something to think about is all the presure that is put on you if you keep all your secrets in your head.
I agree with both Mother and Father, but for different reasons. I agree with Mother because sometimes when you are in a community you need to rely on one another. In the text if Alex and his Father didn't rely on each other they wouldn't last nearly as long as they have. But I also agree with Father for a different reason. I agree with Father because sometimes there won't be people you can rely on in the first place. For example when Alex, Boruch and his Father were called to the selection Alex had to trust himself because he was the only one making a run for it. Therefor I think you have to trust both yourself and everyone else.
On page 31 Alex's Mom and Dad gave him very different advice. Alex’s Dad told Alex to only trust himself, but his Mother told him to trust others at certain times. In the book Alex follows his Mother's advice. Alex hides at home while his dad goes off to work. While he is doing this he is trusting that his Dad will come home, and if his Father can't come home Boruch will get him. If he didn't follow his Mother's advice, and only trusted himself he might have not trusted that his Father would come home. If he had acted upon this thought he would have come out of hiding to get food. If he had done this Germans might have caught him. Alex also followed his Mother's advice when he escaped from the Germans. Boruch told Alex to run, and that the shotgun was in Alex's bag. Alex could have not trusted Boruch, stayed within capture, and died, but he trusted Boruch and ran for it. Because he followed his Mother's advice he survived. Because of how many times the advice his Mother gave him saved his life I believe that the advice his Mother gave him was better than the advice he gained from his Father.
I agree with father’s statement about trust because in the end, life is always about selfishness. People may stand up or protect you for a long time but when the time comes, if ever, when people will need to choose between them and you, they will always choose themselves if the circumstances are equal. This is why you should never truly trust people because we work for ourselves.
I agree with both because you need to rely on people and trust them like your parents but you need to try your own thing like it school if you want to pass a test and get a hundred you're not cheat you're using what's in your head.Like I don't think Alex is up to the responsibility of being alone he just need a little support like food and water like if someone's there he can't fight back without the gun.If he was alone I think he’d make it through but he would have a hard time.
I agree with Nick T, because you cant cheat on a test and be trusted, and if you are a rat you wont be trusted again if you are caught and live, and Alex is dependent on his father and he trusts his father.
I agree with the Mother and Father for a few reasons. The Mother thought if you relate to people with trust and kindness they help you. This is true because if you give them a favor then they will give you one too,and if you're selfish and only think of others then when you're in time of need they would probably not help you. Another example is when you're in trouble and people come looking for you they might hide you if you hide them. The Father thought to be kind but only trust yourself. I agree with this because if you tell everyone you're secrets they might use them against you. Suppose you tell them where you're bunker is and then when the Germans come they use it and there is no room for you.If the Germans offer them a lot of money or food which the Jews needed then they might tell them everything they want to know. This I why I agree with the Mother AND Father. ~Sonia N.
I agree with Alex’s father on trust because people can act nice to you, but on the inside, they really aren’t that nice and they might break your trust. You only know you and yourself the best. You know who you are and you are the only one capable of controlling yourself. You can’t read another person’s mind and see who they truly are on the inside. They can trick you into believing that they are harmless and won’t do anything with you. In the end, you find out that they only used you so they can achieve something for their own selfishness. Since the Nazis are a big part of this story, if a person from the ghetto met a Nazi and trusted him without knowing, he could be putting his life on the line. Also, if you rely on others so much, you’ll become useless yourself. If those people suddenly disappeared, there’ll be no one to take care of you, and you’ll eventually die because no one else cares. Alex’s father also said you should be kind. This I agree with. You should be kind to others, because they’ll appreciate you for it. But putting your absolute trust into someone who might not turn out so nice is a whole different story.
I agree with father. I agree with father because other people in the world can’t always be trusted. Sometimes when you have a good relationship with another person they can blackmail you by getting closer with you. Also Alex needs to trust himself because if he trusted someone else he might get killed. This is why trust father.
I disagree with you Joyce Li. ALex can trust himself AND other people. If you have a close friend that you have know since first grade and you trust them the chances are there will be no betrayal. ~Hayley C.
I agree with father for many reasons. My first reason is because he is very friendly. He is polite and nice and will not lie. He has to be trustworthy because if he lies he might be killed by the Germans. I think father can be trusted! - Forrest K.
I agree with your claim, but your evidence confuses me. When you said "He must be trustworthy because if he lies he might be killed by Germans." it does not make sense to me since in the book as it is, Alex's father already lies to German Soldiers in order to stay safe, so I'm confused with your evidence, but I agree with you.
Or are you trying to say that Alex's father must gain the German Soldier's trust?
agree with Father because sure you should be kind to anyone but some people might be trying to trick you. For example in the book a Nazi could be trying to get you into a train or separate you from your parents. Even right now you shouldn’t trust anyone because some people could be very nice to you but they are actually trying to drive you away or even kill you secretly. But you should always be kind because if they are not blood thirsty murderers, they will probably be kind back. Does anyone else agree? -Tim Yesepkin
I agree with with the father because in the text he said “Be kind but only trust yourself.”Well when you trust people they might betray you in the end.But what the father is saying is when you be kind to people you don’t know if they telling the truth or if they’re lying.Wwll in the end the only person you can trust is yourself because you yourself know if your telling the truth or you are lying. When you trust yourself you can’t get hurt easily as when you trust your friends or other people. -Shainay C
I agree with the father, but some of what the mother said I also agree to. The mother says on p.30 "If you relate to people with trust and human kindness, they will always help you." which is true, because even if you don't know someone, you help them, and they still thank you, which shows that what the mother said about how if you relate with other people you will get help is PARTIALLY true. BUT, what the father says on page 30 and 31 is also true. He says "What counts most is the element of surprise. Be sure to take your time....", which is also true because you never know if a stranger you meet may be bad, so the father is correct there, but later when he says "Be kind but only trust yourself." is also true because it's saying you should always be kind, but that does not mean you have to trust everyone you meet. Overall, I agree with both the father and mother, but the father's opinion a little bit more.
I agree with mother, and she said that,"If you relate to people with trust and kindness, they will always help you", and that is true in a place without war, but since this is WWII I also agree with the father that said, "be kind but only trust yourself", and that is true in a war sense. Thats why they are both right. -Jon P
I agree with what Jon said about mother because if you can relate to people and find kindness in their hearts they will help you get through hard times. -Dylan J
I agree with Alex’s Father’s statement for many reasons. Firstly, trusting everyone isn’t the way to go. In a time like this where there are German’s just about everywhere, you have to keep things to yourself. Trusting someone that could be blackmailing you or even completely false is a dangerous situation even in the world where currently we are free from any “hostage camps”. This means that in that time where Alex and his father are placed in ghetto’s, there is a great chance for someone to be completely false. So many people are not who they appear to and be like they really are in the period of time. Like a very famous quote, “Always expect the unexpected.” This quote helps because of course if someone did try and blackmail you and you are expecting it you have a way out. Mom’s statement, “Trust everyone you know” isn’t right even if it’s someone you know, the person you think is a “friend” could really only be a street rat and tell info to anyone from there. Trusting only yourself is the way to go because who knows the people out there!!! I think Alex’s fathers statement is a better one to agree with than his mom’s.
I completely agree with Cal. I would never put my full trust in someone because even if they have always been my best friend, survival makes people do horrible things. Like Cal said, "expect the unexpected." This period of time was full of rats that went behind peoples' backs and betrayed them to stay alive. Good evidence Cal.
I agree with father that its better to only trust yourself than to trust everyone. It may be true that life could be a lot harder if you don't trust people to help, but it would also be safer. For instance, when there was a bombing in the ghetto and the stranger told Alex to come into his house for safety. If Alex had trusted the strange he would be dead. Although the best option is somewhere in the middle, of the two theories, I think that its better to trust no one than everyone.

I agree with father, but only in that period of time. Back then, there were so many rats that it would be far too risky to go around trusting anyone. Like father says, “Be kind but trust only yourself.” Mother is correct that you should have kindness in your heart, and I would agree to trust people in the present day. If I the book was based in the present, where everyone doesn’t have to fight for their own survival day-to-day, I would agree with mother easily. But, I think we all have to realize that this is the Holocaust. There are rats everywhere that will give away your secrets that you trusted with them in a heartbeat, to save themselves. I don’t exactly blame them; it’s survival, but I still wouldn’t trust anyone, personally. In the end, based on the time period generally, I agree with father’s statement.
I agree with you, Derek because there are many rats at that period of time and they could possibly ruin you life if you let them. Use Alex's fathers advice and be prepared for this type of stuff back then so I DEFINILTY agree to yours.
I agree with you Derek that it is risky to trust anybody in this time period. People in the ghetto are so concerned about surviving that they would do anything to survive, even rat out a person that played a big role in your life.

I agree with Alex’s father’s statement that, to “Be kind but only trust yourself”.
I say that because you cannot assume everybody is trustworthy. One example of this is you breaking the law inside the ghetto. Your best friend could tell on you just to get extra food and you would be executed. Trusting a person you do not know can be dangerous because they could be tricking you into getting caught. One scenario where that could happen is a german soldier undercover as a ghetto citizen. He could plan an escape with some people right in the german trap to catch them .Basically everyone is “every man for themselves now”. Careful to trust close friends or family or they might rat you out. One quote that I know that fits perfectly with this question is that “Expect the unexpected”. This means to take precaution as if everything would happen as their worst scenario.
In conclusion you should think about what you are doing before you do it inside the ghettos.
I agree with Alex’s Mother for many reasons. First, in hard times where people are starving and dying, you need to look to neighbors and friends for help and trusting no one will only kill you faster. Also, back then there were many people who would rat each other out but if you put the right judgement in people and make an alliance with them it can only help you. As Alex Mother said, “An intelligent person knows when to follow one rule and when to follow another... the heart should have kindness and love in it.” All in all I think Alex’s Mother was right to say it is ok to ask other people for help. - Dylan J
Dylan, you give great evidence but I disagree. You would be completely correct if this was the present time, but you have to remember that this is the Holocaust. There are rats everywhere that could go behind your back that wouldn't be there in the present day. Still, great job.
I think that Father was correct. I think this because he says that you should be kind towards others, but only trust yourself. This means that you should help other people, but always be ready for them to turn on you. This makes sense because, if you prepare for the worst, you will always be ready for anything. It especially makes sense in this situation because people are willing to tell the Germans anything to get a reward. Mother’s statement is nice, but Father’s is very applicable to their current position.
I slightly disagree with this, because if you can't trust ANYONE at all, then it's very hard to go on with a happy life. I do agree that it's hard to trust people during the war, but you should at least be able to trust your family and some close friends.
I agree with father's philosophy, that you should be KIND to everyone, but only TRUST yourself. I agree with this philosophy because being kind to everyone you encounter could lift your mood along with everyone else's mood, who is around you. However TRUSTING everyone is a whole different story! For instance, in the book there are people in the ghetto who must not be trusted, called "RATS." If you ever trust a rat, Alex explains, then they will act as your friend then before you know it they will turn on you and either get you in trouble or dead. Clearly, trusting EVERYONE might not be the smarter choice, especially in the ghetto.

I agree with the mother’s argument that you need to “relate to people with trust and human kindness” for them to want to help you, but the father’s argument is something very different. He argued that it’s always good to be kind, but you should only trust yourself. I agree with that, but only in certain situations. For example, if you don’t trust someone, you shouldn’t act like you do just so they’ll trust you. If you don’t trust them, then why should they trust you? But you also can’t rely on only yourself. It would be hard to only have faith in yourself, because then you would never feel safe or or protected, and you may feel like you have to fend for yourself. My main point is that you should only make people trust you if you trust them in return. But that doesn’t mean you should never trust anyone, because only relying on yourself maybe hard and feel unsafe. ~Isabela G.
I agree with Mother and Father. I agree with Mother because if you are kind to others, they will usually help you, and you will be able to rely on them in times of need. Also, you can have them do something for you if you are busy, or can't do it yourself. I agree with Father because if you trust other people, they could always turn against you and hurt someone you care about, or do something to hurt you. But I think that it's better to balance these ideas; trust people that you think can be trusted, but stay on your toes; don't do anything over the top. -Maya W.
I agree with Alex's father because he said, "Be kind but only trust yourself." I agree with the father because if you trust other people and they are nice to you, they could easily betray you. I also agree with the father because there were many dangerous people back then. Also, since it was during the war I would agree with father, but if it was nowadays I would agree with mother since there are more nice and trustworthy people. I also agree with the mother because she said, “If you relate to people with trust and human kindness they will always help you.” Sometimes this can be true because then that person could help, but other times it might not be because they could act like they are your friend but then they could betray you. Some of what the mother said was true and some of what the father said was true.

I agree with the mother, because she said that when you have trust in people they will give their trust in you. But I also agree with the father because he said that to only trust yourself and in some cases you have to trust yourself. Like when there was a bombing and Alex was out on the street and the man had told Alex to come into his house .Alex didn't trust him and put his trust into himself, and that was the right thing. But the mothers advice was good to because sometimes you need to have trust in others so they can help you out. But like the mother said it depends on the situation because there are people out there that don't deserve trust and then you trust yourself to do the right thing. But there are people that do deserve your trust and then you trust that person because you need people who have trust in you too. I agree with both of them because they both have the right idea about trusting people. -Emma Mac
I agree with parts of both of their thoughts. You should almost always be kind, but don’t always trust everyone. Father’s argument was to “Be kind, but only trust yourself.” Whereas his mother said, ”If you relate to people with trust and human kindness, they will always help you.” I agree with part of his argument. You should almost always be kind. But only in his situation. For example, if he wasn’t kind to the Germans and they were trying to take him away from his family, then they would do something such as kill him and/or his family. Nowadays the only time people try to separate children from their families is if it is for the greater good of the child or kidnapping them. In the case of kidnapping there is no need to be kind to the criminal. I agree with most of his mother’s argument too. You should relate to people through trust and kindness if you are almost sure they are good people and are only trying to gain their trust or their help, but they won’t always trust you back, so that part I disagree with. I think if they blend their two opinions together they would have great advice. -Morgan B
I disagree with Ben W. for he claims that Father's PHILOSOPHY was that you should be kind to everyone but only trust yourself. How could this br true for the father himself put his trust in other people, like Boruch. Clearly this is not the Father's PHILOSOPHY!!! - Ben W.
I agree with both because as Alex's mother said, if you relate to people with trust, they will always help you. I agree because usually, if someone is nice to you you respect them and feel the need to help them. However, sometimes people act nice to get close to someone just so that they can stab them in the back (metaphorically speaking). If you were to trust a German soldier in that time period, and they ended up bringing you to the ghettos, you trusted them with your life not knowing they were trying to harm you. In cases like this, Alex's father is probably right. So depending on the situation, father or mother could be right.
I agree with alex's father and his thinking. One reason is that since there in the ghetto you can't trust anybody because there may be rats (people that are traitors to the Jews). Another reason is that if you trust somebody and they let you down you might be in a lot of trouble. In conclusion I agree with Alex's father 's reasoning.
I agree with Alex's father's thoughts. First, trusting the wrong person could lead to pretty bad consequences. In this instance, German soldiers can't be trusted, because they are the people that threw you into the ghettos (Jews POV). Secondly, they may not trust you back, and they wouldn't help you much if they don't trust you, even if you do. So, because of those reasons, I think that the father is right in this situation.
I agree with Alex's father about trusting people. He said, " be kind but only trust yourself." You can try to trust other people but you never know what will happen. Like playing Russian Roulette. They will eventually do something, wether they rat you out or turn on you it wil almost always happen. Like in the book. Before World War II German person and a Jewish person could have been friends. Next thing you know, the German is arresting his Jewish friend for just being who he is
I agree with Sam, but I think that his usage of the word 'German' could be replaced with 'Nazi' because less than half of the german population were Nazis.
You can trust yourself and your family. I agree with father in this book. Even if your heart is kindness and love, it depends on the situation. An example is when a stranger borrows money and they may not give it back. If you don’t know someone it might be a bad idea to trust them. That what I agree with father it depends on the situation.
I agree/ disagree with the mother and I agree with the father for the following reasons: Alex's mom said that you can trust people that are trustworthy and nice. For example, if you know a person really well like your best friend or your parents you can trust them to do things like keeping secrets etc. On the other hand, I disagree with Alex's mom because a person can SEEM nice and trustworthy and a good person but they really aren't. For example, A lot of people trusted Adolf Hitler that he would make Germany great and shine it in a good light, but obviously he didn't. So this is why I agree/disagree with the mom. Now to Alex's father, I agree with the father when he said you can only really trust yourself. Even though you might trust your parents to bring your HW when you don't have it. They could decide not to do it, but if you bring it in you know that you can bring it in. Depending on what is happening the father and the mother could both be right.
I agree with the both of the parents, for many reasons but the Reason I agree with the father who said that you can only trust yourself, because, rats were very common, and would tell the Nazis anything against the rules that you did or were going to do that was against the rules, but if you were mean to everyone, you would basically be socially rejected. I agree With the mother because in the present, I can trust people with some things, but not others. For example, If I was in a ghetto, and a freind was asking me if I had any plans to escape, or a bunker under my basement, and I did, I would lie and say no, but In the present time if a freind asked me if I did something that I wasnt supposed to, I would have told the the truth.
I agree with Alex’s mother. It depends on the situation. I believe that you can trust others as long as you are cautious about what you believe and what you don't. If you don’t even consider the opinions of others, then you won’t have their opinions to help shape your own opinion. I also agree with Alex’s father. I believe to always put your trust in yourself first. If you don’t then you will learn to put your trust in others. Eventually, you will lean on others more than your self and get into a situation where you will trust the wrong person.
i agree with the father because if you where in a war and a German and a Jew where friends and the Jewish person told the German that he had a pistol or a gun, then the German could rat out the other guy and the Jewish person could get shot or in really big trouble.
I agree with mother’s philosophy on trusting others. Her philosophy was “if you relate to people with trust and human kindness, they will always help you.” She is saying that if two people trust and are kind to each other, you will always receive help from them. This, in my experience has ALWAYS been true. Also, if you listen to Father’s reasoning of trusting others, it is not something I would lean towards. His philosophy was “be kind, but only trust yourself”; how can you expect anyone to trust you? In conclusion, mother’s philosophy seems to be the most trustworthy.
I agree with your statement. I like how you relate to your own experience, because it makes your piece stronger. Also, going on both points of view made sense because I could understand your perspective of Mother and Father.
I agree with what the father said. If you put too much trust into someone then they could easily turn on you. This is so, because when you really trust someone they could easily betray you. Think of it when you really trust someone, you dont think that they would do anything to you because you trust them and view them as an ally and friend. Some people purposely gain your trust so that they can make you give them leverage then unexpectedly BAM!!!!, they stab you in the back, and you wouldn't think it would happen because you thought they were your friends
I agree with Father about not trusting people. If you trust people, they don’t always have to treat you back the same way. Many people trusted Hitler but he lied to everyone. People can betray you, especially when the decision is life or death. Also, when you constantly trust someone they think you’re weak and might get annoyed with you. They need to leave you at some point of your life; no one will stay with you for you to rely on forever. People will come and go in your life. My best friend from 4 th grade left me and found new friends because I had to move. If you trust yourself you will less likely betray yourself and avoid the consequence that other people will give you up or give you away.

I agree with father. It's good to be kind to people, but sometimes the people that you thought were your closest friends will sometimes backstab you. If you trust people too easily some people will take advantage of that and use you. Like Hitler: everyone thought that he would make a better world, but instead he killed everyone that he thought wasn’t perfect. You can still trust people, but don’t tell them everything you know because you never know what will happen between you and them. If you’re kind to people they will treat you back with kindness, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can trust them with everything.
I agree with both of Alex’s father about trust and kindness.
Father is right because he said that you should “be kind but trust only yourself. That means that you should be kind to people so if they decide to help you, then good for you. But if you trust them, you never know if they will betray you. If you be kind to people, they may choose to trust you but they don’t know if you’ll go and betray them. But if you don’t trust them, then there is probably a 1 in 100 chance that they will betray you.
These are my reasons for why I agree with Alex’s father.
I agree with father because if u have someone to trust you, you never know if they will ditch and kill you. it also depends on the situation sometimes people are trying to help and in other situations there trying to use you to get out of a bad situation.
I agree with Mother about trusting people. I agree with Mother because though she is saying that you should always believe in the best of people, and if you relate to them they’ll always come through for you. She also says so herself, you should always keep the feelings of love in your heart but “That doesn’t mean you always have to act on them....Not when you’re facing a murderer with a skull patch on his uniform” She’s saying that you should trust people and they will come through for you and that you should have faith in humanity. Shes not saying that you should go around to everybody and give them a great big hug. As she says “An intelligent person knows when to follow one rule and when to follow the other” Shes saying that if you're smart, you're not going to trust someone who you know is going to put you in danger or cause you harm. By saying this she means that you don't have to trust everyone all the time, she’s saying though you should always keep love and faith in your heart know when you have to use your instincts. If you never trust anyone you're always going to get half of that person, half of their effort, half of their work. When you trust you get the best out of people. -Anna.J
In the book, “The Island on Bird Street”, by Uri Orlev I agree with father about what he said about trust. This is because you shouldn’t just trust someone right away. If you trusted everyone one you met you could get emotionally hurt very easy. You should be kind though. If you never talk to anyone and always keep things in your head then you can never get help if you need it. I think that when mother claimed “they will always help you”, that is not true. When you say a big claim like that, it needs evidence. Some people are interpreting what father said wrong. They think that all he is saying is that he doesn’t want to trust people. He isn’t saying that though. What fathers point is, is that he is saying size the situation. Don’t go around telling people things you are not sure you can tell people. When he means sizing the situation he means if they seem trustable, such as Boruch, then you should say it. Use your gut. Also, Alex is doing what his father said about trust. When Alex heard his parents fight I guess he thought his father had a good point and to follow him. What do you think about the different points of view of trust? Do you see why father thinks that his is better? I do and after reading this I hope you do too.
I agree with father that it’s better to not trust people but be kind. I agree with him because it’s better to be kind to everyone but not trust everyone. I say this because it’s basically saying that if someone walked down the street and said “I trust you not to hurt me” in a nice way that person may end up to be after that person some day. My second reason to agree with father is some people get beat up because the person they trusted and were nice to betrayed them, and decided to ignore their kindness and hurt them instead. Lastly it’s not a perfect world, people die because of trust issues even if the deceased person was nice the the murderer. -Daphnee-Anne Grignon
I agree with Father because some people are not trustworthy. There may be a person who is being nice but they really want you to get in their van. People may be nice and caring but that doesn't mean that they can be bad people deep inside. Just because they are nice doesn't mean that they are good. -Aiden D.
I agree with Alex’s mother and father. I agree with Alex’s mother because if you trust someone that person can sometimes trust you. Sometimes if you don’t trust someone, they won’t be friends with you and can’t rely on them when you need them. I agree with Alex’s father because sometimes your best friend can leave you in the summer and find new friend just like the book I’m reading right now. I believe that they are both right but it has to accord to the situation you are in.
I agree with the father I think you should be kind but only trust yourself. If you trust someone they might betray you. You could know someone really well and trust them and then they could rat on you so they can get more food. Sure people will help you if you trust them but they will also help you if you don’t trust them because they will never know science you are nice to them. You can never know what people might do or what tricks people might play during war to save themselves which is why you can only trust yourself. -Bella C.
I definitely agree with Mother’s point of view on “trusting others.” First, Mother’s philosophy was: “If you relate to people with trust and human kindness, they will always help you . . . An intelligent person knows when to follow one rule and when to follow the other. But I wasn't thinking so much of the specific way one should behave. I was thinking of the feelings that one should have in one’s heart. And the heart should have kindness and love in it. That doesn't mean you always have to act on them.” I certainly stand by Mother’s perspective of trust because, for example, if you need help carrying an expensive bed, and you ask someone you know has a good heart to lend you a hand, they will almost always help you. Therefore, if you are an intelligent person who can tell whom to trust, you will end up with many great friends because you have earned their respect, and you’ll always have someone to lean on when you’re not strong. Since Mother has definitely touched upon this, I completely agree with her statement. It could certainly help Alex make further decisions in the book. On the other hand, Father stated, “What counts most is the element of surprise. Be sure to take your time . . . Be kind but trust only yourself.” This statement is an opinion, and in my opinion, trusting yourself only is not the best policy. What I mean by this is that if you only trust yourself, you won’t have many friendships, and will not have anyone to lean on in bad situations. So, I do not agree with Father’s philosophy because if you don’t trust other people, you will not end up with many friends, and will definitely not have anyone to be there for you. That would not be fun! In conclusion, I am totally on Mother’s side. Her philosophy made sense to me, was intelligent, and seemed like the right path to follow. She pointed out that making smart decisions with whom you trust can deeply impact your friendships, and most of the time creates friendships.
I agree with mother. I agree with mother because even though, she said that to trust people then they’ll trust you back. At first I didn’t really agree with her then while i kept reading she said not to trust everyone, especially the people that has a skull patch on his uniform. Not everyone is nice if you trust them or be nice to them they might not respect you back. Life's not fair it always doesn't go the way you plan it to go. -Tammy Y.
I agree with both of Alex's parents because you should be kind and trust your self but sometimes it depends on the situation. If you needed to trust someone it would be a close person. Like Family, a close friend, etc. but if you trusted someone that's not trustworthy they will mess up.
Alex shouldn’t trust The Gryns. The Gryns lied about Stealing the food that Alex and his father had hid. Alex needs food more than the adults that have plenty of food because they took the hidden food. They don’t care that Alex his alone and his dad isn’t there. Also, The Gryns can’t be trusted because they wouldn’t let Alex in until he started screaming. That is a sign untrustworthy because Alex did a signal knock but they still didn’t open it. Would you trust the Gryns? I wouldn’t. The Gryns blamed Alex for screaming but he wouldn’t scream out loud if they’d just opened up. That’s why Alex should not trust the Gryns. -Vanessa Y.
I agree with Vanessa Alex should not trust the Gryns. I know I would not trust then at all. I think they should not have to them where it was in the first place. ~Sonia N
I agree with mother and father. I agree because the father says “ Be kind (to others) but, trust only yourself”. He says that because you do not want to be rude or hurt someone, you just can’t trust everyone because some people are not safe and are not truthful especially in the ghettos because people after awhile just want to survive. Also, some people help Germans just to get a reward and rat you out. So, basically he is saying just be safe and trust yourself. I also think that father’s statements were more helpful and effective on Alex then mother’s but, mother’s statements were still good. So, yes I do agree with mother’s and father’s statements.
I definitely agree with father. He said that you should be kind but only trust yourself. Notice how the father included being kind. This means that if you only trust yourself, it doesn't make you a bad person or a bad friend, because you are still being kind to people. Father gave good advice, because you never know who can "rat" on you. For example, a Jew and a Nazi could be best friends, but once World War II starts, they rat on each other just to get more power. Ratting people out is terrible, but you never know when someone can do it to you. So the best way to be safe is to only trust yourself. I don't think that anybody would want to be in a situation where their friend, or somebody they trusted, had turned to be a traitor. I believe that Father's idea is best. Especially times like the World War II, people should take Father's advice.
In chapter 4, page 30 and 31 specifically, Alex’s mother and father both give him advice about trusting people. I agree with both mother and father for different reasons. Father says to only trust yourself, and mother says to trust others. I agree with mother because you should trust others but not too much. That is where fathers right.
I agree with Alex's father about trusting people. In the text he says, "Be kind but only trust yourself." I think this means don't be rude about what your hiding. Don't trust anyone because they might rat you out like in chapter three when the Germans found out about their secret hiding place because someone ratted them out. Alex's mother's advice was, " It depends on the situation, an intelligent person knows when to follow one rule and when follow the other. But i wasn't thinking so much of the specific way one should behave. I was thinking of the feelings that one should have in one's heart. And the heart should have kindness and love in it.That dosn’t mean you always have to act on them. Certainly when you’re facing a murderer with a skull patch on his uniform.’’ I disagree with this because you never know who your talking to. -Rose K
Pictures are so inportant to people in this time because pictutes are memorys and to them at this time pictures a good things. Its before the invasion its before every thing went down hill its like a reason for them to keep fighting.
I agree with father. There are so many people out there that are friendly to you and you are friendly back to. But it doesn't mean you can trust them. There are a lot of bad people . But you don't know who the bad people are. It's like they're wearing masks. For example if you go up to a complete stranger and ask for their help, they would probably help you. But then they ask you if want a ride back to your house . They will most likely not bring you back to home , and assault you. On the other hand mother is right to. There are a lot of friendly people . Some people are nice enough to respect you and understand , that all you need is a little favor and nothing else. For example , if I went to the beach and I wanted to take a picture but I couldn't do it myself. I would ask someone to take a picture for me. That someone understood that you didn't need anymore help. If that stranger asked do you " Want me to take another picture of something for you?" they didn't understand the fact that you only wanted that tiny little favor of taking a picture of you and your friend. In my opinion , mother and father's perspectives are both correct.
I agree with Rose K. i do becaus e its very true that someone out of the blue, BAM someone could rat you out, thats why you have to be kind, but only trust yourself.
I think that father and mother are both correct because mother said, “If you relate to people with trust and kindness, they will always be there to help you.” I think this is true in daily life because if you treat someone the way you want to be treated, they will want to be your friend. On the other hand, father said, “Be kind but trust only yourself.” I agree with this if you were in a war where there were lots of enemies.
I agree with Kelly. Both mom and dad are right. Trusting people would be good but they could turn on you. IN war making enemies is easy and treating people the way you want to be treated is important. ~Vanessa Y.
I think Mother is right for most instances. You should have an open mind about everyone you meet and be kind to them. If you do this the person you met won't forget and you will be on your way to getting someone you can trust. However, Father is right when there is something so important, and that you know you will do it but not sure that anyone else will. You only feel safe if you only trust you.
I agree with Alex’s mother. The mother says that If you “relate to people with trust and human kindness, they will always help you.” I think this is the right thing to say because from my personal experience, when someone is nice to me and helps me I am usually nice and helpful back. Also the mother said, “an intelligent person knows when to follow one rule, and when to follow another.” I agree with this statement. In order to survive you must follow the rules but when things go bad you must disobey them, such as if someone is about to kidnap you, you would not just sit there and let them kidnap you and there is no one around to help you , you would most likely try to get out in order to save your life.
On page 31, in Island on Bird Street Alex's parents have different advice for him about trust. His mother tells him to only trust cat the right time, she wants Alex to trust people at the right time. His father tells him to trust only himself, but to be kind to others. I agree with Alex's mother. There are many scenarios that you would need to trust another human being. First, If you have; for example a secret plan, That you wouldnt want the natzies to hear about you woud need to trust someone who wouldn't rat you out, but who could help you execute the plan. Next, if there is a secret that is building up inside of you, that is making you feel pressured about somebody that would be able to support you with what you're going through, but would be able to talk about is with you, so they would not feel stress. Lastly, If you need to trust someone else to be helping you if you need them to be doing something so you can do something else safely. That is I agree with Alex's Mother. Emma MEM

ReplyDeleteI agree with Mother about trusting people.
ReplyDelete~Hayley C.
I agree with you Hayley. I think that when you are in a situation that requires help from others, you should trust them. But, if you are in a situation with people that you cannot trust, that is the time to stick with yourself.
Delete-Iman S.
I agree with Haley. You always have to trust someone, you are never going to get anywhere if you can't trust someone else. But like Ben said, if it's something dangerous like that, you can't always trust them
Delete~Emily E
I agree with both of them because sometimes you must trust someone, so they can help you. As mother said,"The heart should have love and kindess in it." So sometimes you must help someone else who is in need of help. Aslo it depends on the situation as mother siad. But you shouldn't trust someone who looks dangerous or who has killed many people, like a Nazi solider. It is up to Alex or anyone to decide what is right and who to trust.
ReplyDeleteBen K
I agree with Ben K because your claim and evidence is good. But I would like one more quote to make it REALLY strong because the way how you use quotes is great.
Delete-Ben B
I agree with Ben K's statement. Neither of the parents ideas are correct, but together they are. It is important to not trust everyone but there are some people that can, and deserve, to be trusted. Before trusting or not trusting, one should have a reason to trust them or a reason not to. As you said "It is up to Alex or anyone to decide what is right and who to trust."
DeleteMatt G
I definitely agree with you Ben. I brought up similar points as you, but I think that Mother is slightly more correct than Father. I feel like there a re moe people to trust in the world than not.
Delete-Iman S.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Father or Mother about trusting people. I agree because their right, it does depend on the person. For instance, I woud trust the president with a secret rather than a child. Or I would trust a friend rather than an enemy. I would trust a teacher rather than a student. So I conclude that I agree with Father or Mother about trusting people.
ReplyDelete-Ben B
I agree with both Mother, and Father. Alex must use his intelligence to decide weather or not to trust someone. Mother stated, "'An intelligent person knows when to follow one rule and when to follow the other."' Father agreed with that statement by saying, "'Yes Alex, that's so.'" The reason that I agree with both of their statements is because some people are very trustworthy but others aren't to be trusted at all. For example, a "murderer with a skull patch on his uniform" is definitely not to be trusted but at other times, "the heart should have love and kindness" in which one should trust that person. It is Alex's decision.
ReplyDeleteMatt G
I agree with Matt G.I agree with your statement because mom was mostly right, but father was aslo right, except that sometimes you can trust other people, but only if they dont look dangerous. As you said,"It is Alex's decision."

I agree with you Willie because you can trust someone and they might not be a good person yo trust and you will get caught off guard and get caught
DeleteI also agree with Wille, because people may backstab you (betray you) after you help them, and those people are not very reliable.
DeleteDad said, “Be kind but trust only yourself”.
Delete-Vanessa Y.
I agree with Mother. She thinks you should trust people who are kind.
ReplyDeleteI think that it can not be a bad thing to have a few good, honest people who you trust.

I understand your reasoning, but must disagree. Mother said to trust everyone and thats just stupid.

DeleteI agree with Mother, about trusting people based on the situation.
ReplyDelete-Iman S.
I agree with you Iman S. In certain situations you need to trust people. Like when you are doing a trust fall.

ReplyDeleteDerek C.

ReplyDeleteI agree with mother about trusting people.
ReplyDeleteCammi M.
I agre with Cammi, because I also agree it depends on the reason . The reason is really everything to a situation. If your reason ( for example) was to hurt them, then it's not a good reason. If it's for self-defense, then it's "ok".
DeleteCasandra G.
ReplyDeleteCasandra G.
I agree with Mother about trusting people. One reason I think this is because sometimes you need to trust others. If you just trust yourself you would always have pressure on you. (Ms.Cohen this is my fixed response.)

ReplyDeleteWhen Father disagrees, Mother says "It depends on the situation." Adding onto that she said "The heart should always have kindess and love in it." I completely agree.

I agree with Casandra G. If you treat someone with kindness they might not always help you.

ReplyDelete- John S.

ReplyDeleteMichael Lehman
I agree with both because you need to rely on people and trust them like your parents but you need to try your own thing like it school if you want to pass a test and get a hundred you're not cheat you're using what's in your head.Like I don't think Alex is up to the responsibility of being alone he just need a little support like food and water like if someone's there he can't fight back without the gun.If he was alone I think he’d make it through but he would have a hard time.
ReplyDeleteNick.T
I agree with Nick T, because you cant cheat on a test and be trusted, and if you are a rat you wont be trusted again if you are caught and live, and Alex is dependent on his father and he trusts his father.

I agree with the Mother and Father for a few reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe Mother thought if you relate to people with trust and kindness they help you.
ReplyDelete-Christine L.
I agree with father. I agree with father because other people in the world can’t always be trusted. Sometimes when you have a good relationship with another person they can blackmail you by getting closer with you. Also Alex needs to trust himself because if he trusted someone else he might get killed. This is why trust father.
ReplyDelete-Joyce Li
I disagree with you Joyce Li. ALex can trust himself AND other people. If you have a close friend that you have know since first grade and you trust them the chances are there will be no betrayal.
Delete~Hayley C.
ReplyDeleteI agree with father for many reasons.
DeleteOr are you trying to say that Alex's father must gain the German Soldier's trust?
- Jason Alpert Wisnia >:-)
I agree with SoniaN. because she agree with both parents like me,I also like the part that references to the book.
ReplyDeleteNick .T
agree with Father because sure you should be kind to anyone but some people might be trying to trick you. For example in the book a Nazi could be trying to get you into a train or separate you from your parents. Even right now you shouldn’t trust anyone because some people could be very nice to you but they are actually trying to drive you away or even kill you secretly.
ReplyDeleteBut you should always be kind because if they are not blood thirsty murderers, they will probably be kind back.
ReplyDelete-Shainay C
ReplyDelete- Jason Alpert-Wisnia >:-)
I agree with mother, and she said that,"If you relate to people with trust and kindness, they will always help you", and that is true in a place without war, but since this is WWII I also agree with the father that said, "be kind but only trust yourself", and that is true in a war sense. Thats why they are both right.
ReplyDelete-Jon P
I agree with what Jon said about mother because if you can relate to people and find kindness in their hearts they will help you get through hard times.

ReplyDelete~Cal M.
Delete~Derek K.

ReplyDelete~Derek K.
I agree with you, Derek because there are many rats at that period of time and they could possibly ruin you life if you let them. Use Alex's fathers advice and be prepared for this type of stuff back then so I DEFINILTY agree to yours.
Delete~Cal M.
I agree with you Derek that it is risky to trust anybody in this time period. People in the ghetto are so concerned about surviving that they would do anything to survive, even rat out a person that played a big role in your life.

I agree with Alex’s father’s statement that, to “Be kind but only trust yourself”.
ReplyDeleteI say that because you cannot assume everybody is trustworthy.
~ John M
I agree because that quote of yours John M., "Always expect the unexpected" is a strong chunk of evidence that I think really backs up your claim...
Delete~Cal M.
ReplyDelete- Dylan J
I agree with Dylan because there are many great reasons for trusting other people and making there own judgement.
DeleteJosh C.
Dylan, you give great evidence but I disagree. You would be completely correct if this was the present time, but you have to remember that this is the Holocaust. There are rats everywhere that could go behind your back that wouldn't be there in the present day. Still, great job.
Delete~Derek K.
ReplyDelete-Jacob B.
I slightly disagree with this, because if you can't trust ANYONE at all, then it's very hard to go on with a happy life. I do agree that it's hard to trust people during the war, but you should at least be able to trust your family and some close friends.
DeleteI agree with father's philosophy, that you should be KIND to everyone, but only TRUST yourself.

ReplyDelete~Isabela G.
ReplyDelete-Maya W.

ReplyDelete-Emma Mac

DeleteRobert doherty
I agree with both because as Alex's mother said, if you relate to people with trust, they will always help you. I agree because usually, if someone is nice to you you respect them and feel the need to help them. However, sometimes people act nice to get close to someone just so that they can stab them in the back (metaphorically speaking). If you were to trust a German soldier in that time period, and they ended up bringing you to the ghettos, you trusted them with your life not knowing they were trying to harm you. In cases like this, Alex's father is probably right. So depending on the situation, father or mother could be right.
ReplyDeleteNora B
I agree with alex's father and his thinking. One reason is that since there in the ghetto you can't trust anybody because there may be rats (people that are traitors to the Jews). Another reason is that if you trust somebody and they let you down you might be in a lot of trouble. In conclusion I agree with Alex's father 's reasoning.
ReplyDeleteRobert D

I agree with Alex's father's thoughts. First, trusting the wrong person could lead to pretty bad consequences. In this instance, German soldiers can't be trusted, because they are the people that threw you into the ghettos (Jews POV). Secondly, they may not trust you back, and they wouldn't help you much if they don't trust you, even if you do. So, because of those reasons, I think that the father is right in this situation.
ReplyDelete~Max T.
I agree with Max because he has fairly the same reasons as me like when you trust a person it could lead to some conseequences.
DeleteI agree with Alex's father about trusting people.

You can trust yourself and your family. I agree with father in this book. Even if your heart is kindness and love, it depends on the situation. An example is when a stranger borrows money and they may not give it back. If you don’t know someone it might be a bad idea to trust them. That what I agree with father it depends on the situation.
ReplyDeleteI agree/ disagree with the mother and I agree with the father for the following reasons:
ReplyDeleteAlex's mom said that you can trust people that are trustworthy and nice.
-Jake G.
Jake G. I really agree with your agreement and disagreement with Alex's mother.
DeleteEleasah W.
ReplyDelete-Karl M-E-M
I agree with Alex’s mother. It depends on the situation. I believe that you can trust others as long as you are cautious about what you believe and what you don't. If you don’t even consider the opinions of others, then you won’t have their opinions to help shape your own opinion. I also agree with Alex’s father. I believe to always put your trust in yourself first. If you don’t then you will learn to put your trust in others. Eventually, you will lean on others more than your self and get into a situation where you will trust the wrong person.
ReplyDeleteEleasah W.
i agree with the father because if you where in a war and a German and a Jew where friends and the Jewish person told the German that he had a pistol or a gun, then the German could rat out the other guy and the Jewish person could get shot or in really big trouble.
ReplyDeleteI agree with mother’s philosophy on trusting others.
ReplyDelete-Becca L.
I agree with your statement. I like how you relate to your own experience, because it makes your piece stronger. Also, going on both points of view made sense because I could understand your perspective of Mother and Father.
Delete-Abigail D.
ReplyDelete-Jacob M.

ReplyDeleteHannah L.
I agree with both of Alex’s father about trust and kindness.
ReplyDeleteFather is right because he said that you should “be kind but trust only yourself.

ReplyDelete-jonathan I
I agree with Jonathan I because hes right you can trust people unless you know the really well like I wouldn't trust somebody right away.

ReplyDelete~Sivan A.

I agree with Father because some people are not trustworthy. There may be a person who is being nice but they really want you to get in their van. People may be nice and caring but that doesn't mean that they can be bad people deep inside. Just because they are nice doesn't mean that they are good.

DeleteI agree with Alex’s mother and father.

I agree with you Tina because not everyone will trust you back

I agree with the father I think you should be kind but only trust yourself. If you trust someone they might betray you. You could know someone really well and trust them and then they could rat on you so they can get more food. Sure people will help you if you trust them but they will also help you if you don’t trust them because they will never know science you are nice to them. You can never know what people might do or what tricks people might play during war to save themselves which is why you can only trust yourself.

ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Father stated, “What counts most is the element of surprise.
-Abigail D.
I agree with Abigail that mothers perspective on trusting others is correct
ReplyDelete-Becca L.
ReplyDelete-Tammy Y.
I agree with both of Alex's parents because you should be kind and trust your self but sometimes it depends on the situation. If you needed to trust someone it would be a close person. Like Family, a close friend, etc. but if you trusted someone that's not trustworthy they will mess up.
ReplyDelete-Richie H.
ReplyDelete-Vanessa Y.
I agree with Vanessa Alex should not trust the Gryns. I know I would not trust then at all. I think they should not have to them where it was in the first place.

ReplyDeleteWill K.
I definitely agree with father. He said that you should be kind but only trust yourself.
ReplyDeleteNotice how the father included being kind.
Julia Y.
In chapter 4, page 30 and 31 specifically, Alex’s mother and father both give him advice about trusting people. I agree with both mother and father for different reasons. Father says to only trust yourself, and mother says to trust others. I agree with mother because you should trust others but not too much. That is where fathers right.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alex's father about trusting people.

Pictures are so inportant to people in this time because pictutes are memorys and to them at this time pictures a good things. Its before the invasion its before every thing went down hill its like a reason for them to keep fighting.
ReplyDeleteNick T june 6 5:12 am
DeleteI agree with father. There are so many people out there that are friendly to you and you are friendly back to.
ReplyDeleteBut it doesn't mean you can trust them.
~Sarah S.C.
I agree with Rose K. i do becaus e its very true that someone out of the blue, BAM someone could rat you out, thats why you have to be kind, but only trust yourself.
ReplyDeleteI think that father and mother are both correct because mother said, “If you relate to people with trust and kindness, they will always be there to help you.” I think this is true in daily life because if you treat someone the way you want to be treated, they will want to be your friend. On the other hand, father said, “Be kind but trust only yourself.” I agree with this if you were in a war where there were lots of enemies.
ReplyDelete~Kelley M
I agree with Kelly. Both mom and dad are right. Trusting people would be good but they could turn on you. IN war making enemies is easy and treating people the way you want to be treated is important.
Delete~Vanessa Y.
ReplyDeleteBennett E
ReplyDelete~Amy K.
